Cherry Creek is named after the creek which runs through the neighborhood and was named after the wild cherries that used to grow along its banks. Cherry Creek is known for its high-end shopping district, which features more than 300 stores, restaurants, and galleries, including the Cherry Creek Shopping Center and the Cherry Creek North shopping district.

It is home to several parks and open spaces, including the Cherry Creek Trail, which offers a scenic biking and walking path along Cherry Creek. The city holds several annual events, including the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and the Cherry Creek Sneak, which is a popular 5K and 10-mile race and is located near many attractions such as the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Denver Museum of Nature Art and Science.
